A paddle mount is very useful when you are going to get into the kayak using the stirrup and a float. Without a mount, you insert the paddle under the lines on the stern deck and then the paddle lies loose and slides back and forth when you are going to get up. With the mount, the paddle is locked and then it becomes significantly more stable when you are going to get into the kayak. You can attach the paddle mount in two different ways, mounted on a deck line or directly on the stern deck. The conditions differ from kayak to kayak, so look carefully at how the mount is best mounted on your kayak. The most stable is to drill two holes in the stern deck and mount the mount, but it may take drilling in your fine kayak and then you can choose to mount the mount on one of the longitudinal guard lines. Most kayaks have good conditions for mounting the mount on the line, but not all. Some lines are in a recess in the deck and there the deck option is the only mounting method. Even with good aids, you have to practice a few times; only then can you feel more secure if you involuntarily fall into the water.
